Set up an IMAP connection to the IMAP server.ģ. Once the migration is complete, you can configure the users’ Outlook clients to connect to Office 365.Ģ. The Migration Tool will copy the emails, contacts, and calendar items from the IMAP server to Office 365. After the accounts have been imported, you can use the Office 365 Migration Tool to migrate the IMAP mailboxes to Office 365. Once the CSV file is created, you can use the Office 365 Admin Center to import the user accounts and passwords. The first step is to create a CSV file containing the user accounts and passwords that you want to migrate. Migrating from IMAP to Office 365 is a straightforward process. Once everything is working, the old IMAP account can be removed from Outlook/Apple Mail and the backups of the PST/MBOX files we created in steps 2/3 can be used as a backup if needed. Once the import is complete, users can remove the existing IMAP accounts on their iOS devices and set up new 365 ones to get access to their mail. If the old IMAP mailbox is still accessible in Outlook/Apple Mail (it should be, but backups taken just in case) drag and drop folders/messages into the new 365 mailbox to import the messages, retaining folder structure.

Test the new 365 mailbox with send/receive On the Monday when they come to the office, get them to create a new account in Outlook/Apple Mail to connect to their new 365 mailbox. Set up the new mailboxes and settings for the 3 users in 365 admin. Pick the migration date for updating the MX records etc (on a Friday to allow for DNS propagation over the weekend)Īsk the Outlook users to create a backup of their PST file on the Friday before they leave.Īsk the Apple Mail users on OSX to export their mailbox files to a local backup on the Friday. The ISP that hosts the existing IMAP mailboxes did offer to do the import, but they said that all folder structures would be lost. Seeing as there are so few users, I am planning to do this all manually. They use a mixture of Outlook, Apple Mail on OSX and iOS devices. I am helping out a friends business who wants to migrate 3 IMAP mailboxes to 365.
